This work is about attempting to flourish in a majority white inhospitable society as a BIPOC queer person. It explores the interaction between a visual culture that often demonizes and fetishizes the spectacle of black pain, and the pride and exuberance that comes with existing authentically as a Black Trans person. I appropriate and reclaim a primitivist style for the background to represent the clash between nature/self and the hierarchical patriarchal, racial, and economic system.
