In my art piece Qualia, I represented my belief as a young child that life was a simulation. Oftentimes, I would feel random stab pains. As a child, I attributed that to the idea that in the real world, a separate reality, I was on a doctor's table being experimented on. By stacking the canvases, I create a hierarchy of dissociation. This painting acknowledges that this feeling of dissociation was exacerbated by my childhood experience with transgender dysphoria. By connecting my two realities, I created a function from the felt and objective body.
